An interesting workshop for scientists who teach:
\n<\/p>\n
The aim of the workshop is to give insight about improving the learning process and focusing on necessary skills for career in molecular life sciences. The workshop will consist of interactive lectures, small-group discussions and panel discussions. The expected participants are academicians, young scientists and PhD students in molecular life sciences. <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Turkish Biochemical Society and the organizers are very sorry to announce that the FEBS Congress in Ku\u015fadas\u0131 from 3rd to 8th September is cancelled due to complicated political situation in Turkey.<\/p>\n The 2017 FEBS Congress is held in Jerusalem, Israel on 10\u201314 September.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Active Master students have the opportunity to think about completing a part of their scientific career away from home. We have received information about Dortmund Max-Plank Institute doctoral program. Candidacy is open until the end of August! <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Year 2012<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Estonian biochemists have a long tradition to organise spring schools for members of the Society and the guests interested in the topic. In the reporting year that event was held in Viljandimaa, the Vana\u00f5ue Recreation Centre on May 11\u201312. According to the tradition of spring schools all participants make a report on results of his or her work or alternatively they consider a problem of general nature interesting to biochemists. Those outings are traditionally organised by Tallinn and Tartu biochemists in rotation. The spring school 2012 was dedicated to \u201cNeurochemistry\u201d and was held as a joint event with doctoral school in biomedicine and biotechnology. The curator of the spring school was professor Peep Palumaa of the Gene Technology Institute of Tallinn University of Technology and the executive organiser was doctoral student of the same Institute Katrina Laks (Kivim\u00e4e). The photo albums of the spring schools can be browsed on website of the Society.<\/p>\n The annual meeting of the Society was held in the electronic format.<\/p>\n The annual congress of the Federation of the European Biochemical Societies (FEBS), held in Seville in the reporting year, was attended with papers by 3 members of the Society. The work of the FEBS Council held at the end of the Congress was attended, as representatives of Estonia, by Chairman of the FEBS Advanced Courses Committee Jaak J\u00e4rv and President of the Society Peep Palumaa.<\/p>\n With the aim to popularising the research activities among students and to spur on to greater efforts the best students, who have succeeded to publish their results even before obtaining master\u2019s degree, the Estonian Biochemical Society has awarded student science prizes since 2007 (guidelines of the contest are available on website of the Society). At contest of this year all prizes went to the University of Tartu. The first prize was granted to Margot Hein. Karin Mardo and Katrin Kalind were also recognized with prizes.<\/p>\n As the result of the work of commission on terminology of the Society the publication on Society\u2019s website of the draft version of English-Estonian biochemical terms was updated and replenished.<\/p>\n Estonian Biochemical Society has been member of Federation of European Biochemical Societies since 1991.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Year 2011<\/strong><\/p>\n In 2011 the traditional Spring School of the Society was held on May 6\u20137 in West-Virumaa in the Pariis village. According to the tradition of spring schools all participants deliver a paper on results of his or her work or else they consider a problem of general nature interesting to biochemists. Those outings are organised alternatively by Tallinn and Tartu biochemists. The curator of Spring School 2011 was Professor Ago Rinken of Institute of Chemistry of the University of Tartu. It was particularly heartening that geography of participants had broadened \u2013attending were scientists from Tallinn University and Institute of Chemical and Biological Physics. The picture albums of spring schools are available on website of the Society.<\/p>\n Nominated Chairman of Committee of Fundamental Course of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS), the long-serving President of the Estonian Biochemical Society Member of Academy Jaak J\u00e4rv tendered notice on his intention to stand down from the office of President. At the meeting of the Board held on April 14 in Tartu, elected new Chairman of the Society was Professor of Genomics and Proteomics of Tallinn University of Technology Peep Palumaa.<\/p>\n The Biochemical Society participated also at organising the XXII Estonian Chemistry Days, in whose framework one session was dedicated to biochemistry.<\/p>\n The annual meeting 2011 of the Society was held in the electronic format.<\/p>\n The annual FEBS Congress, held in Turin in the reporting year, was attended by 3 members of the Society delivering papers. Chairman of Committee of Fundamental Course of FEBS Jaak J\u00e4rv and President of the Society Peep Palumaa participated, as representatives of Estonia in the work of the session of the FEBS Council, held at the end of Congress.<\/p>\n Since 2007 the Estonian Biochemical Society has awarded student science prizes (guidelines of the contest are available on website of the Society). In 2011 the first prize was granted to master student in gene technology of Tallinn University of Technology Eneken Helk for the article published in the journal\u00a0Analytical Chemistry<\/em>. The prize was also awarded to master student of Tallinn University Anna-Liisa Ikart. The nominees of the prize presented their results at the Spring School of the Society.<\/p>\n The work of commission on terminology of the Society was consummated by publication on Society\u2019s website in December of the draft version of English-Estonian biochemical terms, to be further updated and renovated.<\/p>\n A highlight of the reporting year was the lecture by Nobel Prize Laureate Edmond H.\u00a0Fischer co-organised by the Society on the topic \u201cThe origin of reversible protein phosphorylation as a regulatory mechanism\u201d on November 8 at the University of Tartu. The unique opportunity to hear the Nobel Prize winner was used by students and members of faculty of the University of Tartu and Tallinn University of Technology. Spring school for Society members and other interested scientists was organized in Veski sporting camp near Otep\u00e4\u00e4\u00a0on May 8-9.\u00a0Participants arrived from Tartu and Tallinn and following the traditions of this event, all these 45 students and academics had to take floor for short presentation.
